As a Video Content Creator at Directions Inc, one of the video deliverables we offer to our clients is a “Short”, a video that tells a custom story using stock video clips. For this particular deliverable, my team was tasked with highlighting a segment of consumers for a financial company, called the “Starters”. The Starters are young adults that are just starting to enter the workforce for the first time after their education.
One of the insights uncovered during the research of this segment was that this segment was constantly being overwhelmed by feelings of stress and anxiety and our clients didn’t understand how this generation’s world was any different from the generations that came before them. To help explain this feeling of anxiety, we wrote a custom script that focuses on the idea of this generation being bombarded by bad news at all times of the day, every single day while they scroll through social media.
As the sole video editor on this project, it was my responsibility to source all of the video clips from Getty Images, get a professional voiceover recorded, get the video clips lined up in time with the voiceover, and source all of the music and sound effects. I then tried to simulate the feeling of a panic attack while editing by layering videos and sound effects on top of each other to make it feel like there was too much happening at once.
