The problem statement for this project was to create a brand identity and packaging concept for a brand of wines produced in the country of Madagascar. The challenge was to create a brand that would not only ensure regularly wine drinkers that quality wine could be produced in Madagascar, but also to entice casual wine drinkers to grab this bottle off the shelf without knowing much about it.

Researching Madagascar, I found that wood carvings are an important aspect of the history and culture of the country. I branded my wines after that aspect of the culture and focused in on the triangular and diamond patterns that are prevalent throughout the different regions. I initially named this brand "Carved", as I wanted the brand to be more Americanized, but later changed it to "Sokitra", the Malagasy translation, to pay more homage to the tradition and culture.
